The Athens Gliding Club is a non-profit organization with around 1,500 members, of which 250 are active. Our club operates though the volunteer effort of our members, who train, tow and maintain all our equipment. In this way we are able to keep flight costs quite low (€ 35 for a tow to 600 m).

Our club is based at the Tatoi Airforce Base, conveniently located in the northern suburbs of Athens. We also operate out of a private airfield in Kopais, 80 Km north of Athens, where cross-country flights take place.

Come fly with us! For more information on arranging a trial flight press here. If you are a glider pilot visiting from abroad, press here.

For more information please e-mail us or call our offices at +30 210 27 17 637, Mon - Wed - Fri 18:30 to 21:30.

Training class of 2001.

Flight training

In order to fly solo, the Greek CAA requires a student to join a flight training class. The duration of required training depends on the frequency of attendance and most students find they require anywhere from 4 to 10 months to reach solo standard. The total cost of training comes to around € 2,000.

To join a flight training class you must complete an application form (available at our offices) and present the following:

  • Photocopy of you identity card (or passport)
  • 2 id-size photos
  • A statement of parental authorization (for persons under 18 years), certified by the Greek police. (You will find the necessary from at the club offices).
  • High school (or higher) degree
  • A fee of € 140 which covers the cost of theoretical training and paperwork (for the CAA) and includes the gliding flight manual (in Greek) and all other training material
